Health on fact-finding mission after death of NW twins─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:54 Mon, 06 Sep 2021
The North West Department of Health is on a fact-finding mission after a 26-year-old young mother lost both her twins when she gave birth prematurely outside a health facility.
This was after nurses allegedly failed to respond to the young mother's cries.
The department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, tells OFM News on Monday, MEC Madoda Sambatha is set to meet with the family of the young mother to receive first-hand information, following the incident.
He says after the meeting with the family, Sambatha will meet with the managers of the Madibogopan Clinic in question and only then will he decide what steps to take.
On 17 August 2021, the mother allegedly lost both her twins when she gave birth prematurely outside a health facility. The professional nurses were called by groundsmen and a cleaner to tell them that there was a patient who needs help outside the facility. Following the unfortunate incident, it is said that residents mobilised each other and this then prompted the nurses to close down the hospital in fear of their lives.
The nurses had received threats via social media, print media, and voice clips that the nurses in the clinic are useless. Lekgethwane added in these messages there were threats to set the clinic on fire whilst the nurses were on duty.
Meanwhile, the acting provincial secretary of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) in the province, Kedibone Mdolo, declined to comment on the issue for now.
