ANC NW reacts to list rigging allegations─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:56 Tue, 07 Sep 2021
The ANC's Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) has reacted to stubborn allegations by irate members of the community and ANC members in North West that the candidate lists are being rigged.
IPC coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, says he has noted the allegations. This after a group of ANC members and residents last week marched to the offices of the party in Klerksdorp to register their dissatisfaction over the alleged rigging of the candidate list.
They claimed that legitimate candidates who were elected by residents as their representatives were illegally removed from the list in favour of those preferred by party officials. However, Chauke says the ANC can never tamper nor even go as far as manipulating the voice of the community and reiterates that it respects the choice made by these residents.
"The ANC would not have its own preferred or either leadership candidate that would be wrong, that would be something that is out of the guidelines. What we are dealing with here is that we are dealing with the community outcome because the ANC has, or came up with a system where members of the community are the final abettors when it comes to who is going to be in the ward council," he adds.
Former Dr Kenneth Kaunda Regional Secretary, Lopang Rothman, previously told OFM News that ward councillors were removed and replaced by those who did not receive the majority support of communities from their different wards. He said in some instances it was discovered that there were no community meetings held in certain wards. ANC members in Swartruggens, Moretele, Matlosana, and JB Marks in the North West have criticised the ANC candidate list.
OFM News previously reported that the ANC's IPC lamented the violence that erupted between disgruntled ANC members in Swartruggens over the Branch General Meetings (BGMs) and community meetings.
