North West police officers from Schweizer-Reneke joined hands with farmers to arrest two suspects in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
The North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, states that the suspects - 29 and 33 years old respectively - will appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court on charges of armed robbery. Mokgwabone says security officials were allegedly outside one of the business premises in Schweizer-Reneke when three males approached and pointed them with guns and a knife. One of the security officials was disarmed by the suspects and then robbed of cash containers.
He stated that, according to the information that was provided to the police, one of the suspects went on to stab and cause damage to two security vehicle tyres before they fled with a white Ford Ranger single cab vehicle from the incident. He said that a shoot-out took place after the suspects vehicle was spotted. It later overturned on the Christiana Road. He said that one suspect was found lying dead on the ground with what appeared to be a bullet wound. Whilst, two other suspects were arrested. He stated that the fourth suspect ran into the bushes and evaded the arrest. Furthermore, a firearm and cash were found in the suspects’ vehicle.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the police and the farmers for their collaboration which resulted in the arrest.
