This follows after the Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) local municipality decided to issue several sites to residents who needed a place to stay. 

The executive mayor, Masetjhaba Mosia-Lakaje, accompanied by mayoral committee members, said this is a sign of putting residents’ concerns first. 

Mosia-Lakaje mentioned that beneficiaries had to register for the sites, and undergo a background check on the housing register to ensure that they do not own houses or sites. 

"This is for first-time house owners," she said. 

She concluded by saying that Kestel will soon be developed.
