NC mayor concerned over revenue collection─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:54 Sat, 11 Sep 2021
The Northern Cape’s ZF Mgcawu District Municipality mayor, Mvuleni Mgcera, confirms a lack of revenue collection is a major cause for concern.
With unemployment standing at 28.1%, Mgcera confirms they are unable to collect revenue from residents.
Speaking to OFM News at Riemvasmaak where the Northern Cape Tourism Authority held the provincial tourism month celebration, Mgcera said they are hopeful a boost the tourism industry and its ability to create employment will help alleviate the poverty level in the region.
He said due to unemployment, residents are unable to pay their municipal bills, which has a rippling effect of service delivery.
His statement on the plight faced by the local municipality comes as municipal financial woes and service delivery in the Northern Cape came under scrutiny following Deputy President David Mabuza's visit to the troubled Sol Plaatje Municipality.
