IPID probes death of NW protester─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:32 Sun, 12 Sep 2021

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is probing the death of a North West protester, allegedly at the hands of police in Lichtenburg.
This follows after unrest in the area where a truck was torched on Friday. IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa, confirmed the police watchdog is investigating a case of murder.
Langa adds that on Friday 10 September 2021, police allegedly fired shots at protesters who were running away.
She says the 36-year old Ishmael Moerane Mofokong was hit by a bullet in his chest during the protest, and later died on his way to the hospital.
“Police were firing shots and one of the shots hit the deceased, Ishmael Moerane Mofokong. He was taken to hospital by his friend, but then it is alleged that by the time they got to the hospital, Ishmael had already passed on. We managed to interview witnesses. A post mortem will be conducted on Monday,” said Langa.
Meanwhile, Langa has further stated that fire-arms were confiscated from police officers who were at the protest as part of the investigation.
