Vaal residents unhappy after municipality spends over R2 million on new vehicles─── 07:35 Sun, 19 Sep 2021
The Emfuleni Local Municipality refutes claims that it bought 24 service delivery vehicles to win the coming local elections.
The claim follows after the cash-stripped municipality bought 24 vehicles this month, worth over R2 million.
This is 15 bakkies and 9 sedans.
The municipality claims the 24 vehicles are dedicated to service delivery.
The unhappy residents, however, claim that the vehicles are a desparate move by the municipality amid the coming local elections to win votes.
Some residents further claim the vehicles will be attached by Eskom and Rand Water, for the debt owed by Emfuleni.
The municipality's total debt to Eskom stands at R3.5 billion while it owes Rand Water an amount of R1.1 billion.
Meanwhile, the municipal spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni, tells OFM News that they provide services to residents with or without elections.
