The last day of voter registrations will take place until 5 pm this afternoon.

Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) spokesperson in the Free State, Mmabatho Rasengane, tells OFM News that the highest voter registrations recorded in the Free State yesterday was in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, with 11855 registrations.

The lowest number recorded was in the Mohokare Local Municipality with 472 registrations.

Rasengane says this morning, they have recorded 39 000 voter registrations throughout the province.

She further adds that the lowest number of voter registrations recorded are amongst youth aged 21 and younger.

Meanwhile, the online portal for voter registrations will be available until Monday 20 September 2021.

“Even though the youth is not coming to the party, we have less than 4000 youth that registered themselves. Currently, between 16 and 17 years, there were 119 registrations, not a lot, and between 18 and 21 years we recorded  2995 registrations.

"People tend to procrastinate so since it’s the last day we are hopeful that the youth will come in their numbers,” says Rasengane. She says the online system is currently working including the online voter registration number counter - a live system that shows you how many people have registered.
