"According to information received, on Saturday 25 April 2021, the two friends were walking at Napestad, at Dihokong in Stilfontein, when they were approached by a group of men. Suddenly, two men from the group produced firearms and allegedly shot both friends before they fled the scene," says the North West police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh.

"Police and Emergency Services (PES) were called and the 33-year-old Matela Likhama was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services' (EMRS) paramedics," says Myburgh.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday 16 September 2021 and kept in police custody.

"His 25-year-old friend was rushed to hospital in a serious condition and managed to recover," Myburgh adds.
