Two NC police officers in court─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:47 Tue, 21 Sep 2021
Two Northern Cape police officers are set to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, following their arrests on Monday morning.
The spokesperson of the Northern Cape Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, or Hawks, Philane Nkwalase, says the two police officers are facing charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and kidnapping. He says during their arrest, a white Volkswagen Polo that was allegedly used when committing the crimes, was confiscated.
“The officials are implicated in a syndicate that allegedly robbed motorists’ cash, cell phones, and other valuables at gunpoint along the N14 near Kuruman, between July and August 2020. The matter was referred to the Hawks in August 2020 after complaints were received at the local police station. The Hawks probe revealed that the alleged perpetrators were members of the South African Police Services,” said Nkwalane.
