Man receives life in jail for rape of minor─── BLAINE JONES 15:15 Tue, 21 Sep 2021

A sentence of life imprisonment was handed down to the 25-year-old Gomolemo Shuping following his recent appearance before the Selosesha Magistrate's Court in the Free State province.
Shuping was found guilty after he raped an 11-year-old minor. The police provincial spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says Shuping was found guilty of the rape which took place in May 2019 in Thaba Nchu.
“Shuping had broken into the victim’s house where he found the victim (11) alone. He then raped her. Police of the Selosesha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) collected forensic evidence and submitted it for analysis. By December 2020, Shuping had been positively linked and arrested. He had been in custody until his sentencing.”
Makhele says “preserving evidence after a rape ordeal can help investigators positively link the suspect to a crime. Vital pieces of evidence must be collected within at least 72 hours after the incident. The case must be reported as soon as possible to allow investigators to comb the scene of the crime,” he adds.
