Two NC police officers remain in custody─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:20 Tue, 21 Sep 2021
The case against the two Northern Cape police officers accused of armed robbery, attempted murder, and kidnapping has been postponed.
The spokesperson for Northern Cape Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, or the Hawks, Philane Nkwalase, says the 37-year-old Monageng Joy Makoke and 31-year-old Walter Setidisho, appeared before the Mothibistad Regional Court earlier on Tuesday on charges of armed robbery, two counts of attempted murder, and kidnapping.
He says their case was postponed to 28 September 2021 for a formal bail application and that more arrests are forthcoming.
“The Hawks appeal to other motorists and possible victims who may have experienced the same crime, to contact Detective Warrant Officer Itumeleng Nogaga on 071 481 2754 as the suspects may have been involved in other similar offences,” said Nkwalase.
Meanwhile, OFM News had earlier reported that the two officials were implicated in a syndicate that allegedly robbed motorists’ cash, cell phones, and other valuables at gunpoint along the N14 near Kuruman, between July and August 2020. It was also reported that the matter was referred to the Hawks in August 2020 after complaints were received at the local police station. OFM News further reported the Hawks' probe revealed that the alleged perpetrators were members of the South African Police Services and during the arrest of the two officers, a white Volkswagen Polo, that was allegedly used when they committed the crimes, was confiscated.
