Judgement reserved for former NW Finance MEC─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:40 Thu, 30 Sep 2021
Judgement in the fraud case of the former North West MEC of Finance, Wendy Nelson, and Health HOD Thabo Lekalakala, has been reserved.
The North West National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says that the state and legal representatives of the accused concluded their arguments on Wednesday, leading to judgement of the duo being reserved to 9 and 10 November 2021 at the North West High Court in Mmabatho.
The two were allegedly involved in fraud amounting to R8 million, which Lekalakala is alleged to have received as part of remuneration as Superintendent-General at the Department of Health.
“The NPA is happy that the matter is finally getting concluded, as we await judgement. We believe we had a strong case, however, we know that the final decision lies with the presiding officer,” said Mamothame.

According to him, Nelson was chairing the panel during a job interview of Lekalakala, in which she had knowledge of his misrepresentation on a Z83 form, however, she went on to recommend him for the senior position.
He says that she further failed to disclose the misrepresentation to the then Premier of North West Supra Mahumapelo, upon recommending Lekalakala as a suitable candidate of senior position at the Health Department.
