Five nabbed for illegally selling prepaid electricity─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 16:51 Thu, 30 Sep 2021
Five men suspected of illegally selling pre-paid electricity in the North West have been nabbed by the Hawks.
Free State Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, says the arrests of the suspects was executed earlier today, during the third phase of the investigations carried out by the Free State Hawks team in conjunction with the Eskom investigation team.
The operation began in May 2020 in Bloemfontein targeting the illicit selling of electricity. According to Singo, the illicit sale of electricity was facilitated by unlawful vendors who are in possession of illegal electricity vending machines, which are believed to have cost Eskom millions in revenue.
Singo adds that the suspects, aged between 36 and 47, will be appearing before the Fochville Magistrate court tomorrow.
