The North West Government has shut down the Phokeng Forensic Mortuary following its failure to perform its forensic services.
According to the Department of Health spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, the facility has been plagued by infrastructure challenges including water, electrical, building and fixed equipment breakages.
He says the MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, on Thursday night ordered the closure of the facility in question following his assessment on the same day.
Lekgethwane says forensic services from that area have now been diverted to the Brits Forensic mortuary and all transport costs will be covered by the Department of Health.
