The Deputy President of South Africa, David Mabuza, is in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The visit forms part of both the Vooma Vaccination Weekend as well as the ANC’s election campaign programme in the province this weekend.

Free State Health Spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, tells OFM News Mabuza will begin his busy programme for the day at the Universitas Academic Hospital at 10:30 am and then head on over to Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital to oversee vaccination efforts at the province’s two biggest hospitals.

From there onwards Mabuza will join fellow ANC comrades the newly appointment MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Mxolisi Dukwana and Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela on their extensive election programme as members of the ANC’s interim provincial committee (IPC) which includes door to door visits and a community meeting in Bochabela township.

Mabuza kicked off the Vooma weekend in the Bojanala Platinum District in the North West on Friday.

This followed after President Cyril Ramaphosa called for every Minister, Premier and Mayor to lead at least one prominent event in every district in the country to support and encourage everyone to get the Covid-19 vaccination.

During his address in the Bojanala Platinum District, Mabuza called on residents of the North West to work hand-in-hand with the Premier and the MECs in the North West to deal with the pandemic.

“We need to redouble our efforts, move a bit faster and agree to vaccinate. All our vaccination centres will be open during weekends. We are going to try and reach as many people as possible, “Asivumeni” said Mabuza.

This as the head of the Department of Health’s Vaccination Demand Task Team, David Harrison, told Moneyweb that the platinum mining giants in the North West are instrumental in the vaccination of over 1 million people in the Bojanala District against Covid-19.

Harrison says whilst there are only 120 workplace vaccination sites in the country presently, the department is encouraged, by platinum mining companies in the Bojanala district that are willing to vaccinate surrounding communities and not only mine employees.

According to Harrison the uptake with respect to vaccination in the North West platinum district is very slow, with over a million in that area alone not yet jabbed.
