Police officers’ alleged affair leads to shooting | News Article

Cheating allegations levelled against two Siyathemba police station officers in Kathu ended in a shooting incident.

According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), a female sergeant’s vexed spouse was shot in the abdomen at the police station on Saturday midday after accusing his wife of cheating on him with her colleague and attacking said colleague.

The victim is now in a stable albeit serious condition at a Kimberley hospital.

According to IPID, eyewitnesses tell them that the victim of the shooting arrived at the police station in Kathu around midday to confront the police officer alleged to be having an affair with his wife. He attempted to assault and stab the officer in question which resulted in him first being pepper sprayed and later shot in the abdomen.

Whilst IPID is yet to hear the injured man’s account of the events, they do emphasise that the victim of the shooting almost stabbed the police official in question twice before the pistol was discharged.

A comprehensive report on the incident is still pending.

Meanwhile IPID is still probing the events around the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in the buttocks by patrolling police officers in Port Nolloth.

The IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa, previously said that incident which involved a scuffle between the deceased and a female police officer over her firearm occurred on Sunday 12 September.

According to Langa, no injuries were sustained by the police officers who were on the scene, and the police officers who were allegedly victimised have opened a case of grievous bodily harm (GBH) against the deceased suspect.
