NW Commissioner condemns acts of #GBV─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:55 Mon, 04 Oct 2021
The North West Police Commissioner Sello Kwena has condemned incidents of gender-based violence (GBV) following the arrest of a man who allegedly raped siblings.
According to the North West police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, the 32-year-old suspect allegedly raped his two sisters aged 24 and 12 multiple times on 24 September 2021.
Myburgh says the initial report indicated that the sisters were home alone in their shack in the Thokoza section, in Ganyesa, when the suspect allegedly knocked on the door, looking for their mother. She says the eldest victim allegedly told the suspect that their mother was not home. The accused then allegedly opened the door forcefully, entered the shack, and raped both girls. Myburgh says the suspect was arrested on 25 September following an intensive investigation by the Vryburg Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
She further adds that the accused, who was previously convicted for rape, is expected to appear before the Ganyesa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, after his first appearance in court on 27 September 2021. The case was then postponed.
