The Executive Mayor of the Namakhoi Municipality, Marvin Cloete, is appealing to the residents of Namaqualand to report to the nearest police station if they have missing family members who mine at the Nattaboi mine dump.

The Nattaboi mine dump is located near Kleinzee, in the Northern Cape.

This comes as four illegal miners remain trapped underground after a handmade shaft collapsed on Wednesday, following digging illegally at the mine dump.

“We want to appeal to the communities of Namaqua to please go to the nearest police station if some of their family members are still missing and if they know that some of these family members went from time to time to Namakhoi to go and mine there. So we want to appeal to all the community members to go to the police station if they haven’t heard from their family members, friends or anybody else that they know,” says Cloete.
