Reopening of iconic Bloemfontein City Hall postponed | News Article

The much-anticipated reopening of the iconic Bloemfontein City Hall, which was gutted by fire in 2017, has been postponed.

The hall was meant to be reopened tomorrow by the Mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality, Mxolisi Siyonzana. However, the municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says due to the planned visit of ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa to Bloemfontein, the reopening of the City Hall is postponed until further notice.

Khedama previously confirmed that the renovations of the iconic building have been completed.

In 2019, the restoration entered the second phase.

OFM News previously reported that the hall was allegedly torched as a result of former Executive Mayor Olly Mlamleli’s backtrack on an agreement reached with the then striking Samwu workers.

However, Mlamleli later refuted allegations that it was torched as a result of her not heeding to the demands of the then striking workers.
