86-year-old Piet Els and 62-year-old Magrietha (Rikkie) Alsemgeest were attacked on Els' farm outside Kimberley in January 2018 and assaulted with a clothing iron.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien, says Els died four months after the attack due to his injuries.

The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, as well as robbery.

Two firearms, three watches and Kruger rims as well as a luxury vehicle were looted during the incident.

The accused were released on bail while the investigation continues.

Gameldien says the trial is expected to continue throughout the week.
