I didn’t ask anybody to join ANC - Vusi Tshabalala | News Article

The suspended ANC Chief Whip in the Free State Legislature has vowed to encourage residents of Maluti A-Phofung in the Free State to vote in the upcoming elections.

Vusi Tshabalala says he will take this course despite being suspended from participating in the ANC activities because his suspension does not mean that his not a member of the party.

The ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, previously told OFM News Tshabalala was suspended pending an investigation into his alleged support for independent candidates for the upcoming elections. Tshabalala says he is still waiting to hear from the ANC’s IPC over his disciplinary hearing.

“In fact, when I joined the ANC I did not ask anybody. I joined the ANC voluntarily and I will work for the ANC as much as I would work for any other political party that I would be serving. So, people who are bringing stories that I am independent, I don’t know why are they doing that maybe they have reasons,” he adds.

Tshabalala was amongst ANC heavyweights who attended the asbestos pre-trial proceedings, involving the former Free State Premier Ace Magashule who stands accused in the R255million failed project.

Tshabalala previously said he is not surprised by his suspension from the party. He said his suspension has always been on the cards because he supported the suspended Magashule. Tshabalala said the ANC’s IPC is led by Mxolisi Dukwana, who is a known Magashule adversary and part of the CR17 faction in the ANC.

Among other ANC party members who attended the proceedings in support of Magashule, were the ANC veteran, Carl Niehaus, former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, and axed Free State MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, Sam Mashinini. The proceedings in the pre-trial were postponed to 3 November 2021.
