NW Premier hands over 51 traffic vehicles─── BLAINE JONES 08:51 Sat, 23 Oct 2021
The North West provincial government is gearing up for the December holiday festivities.
As part of October Transport Month, North West Premier, Bushy Maape, handed over 51 branded traffic vehicles to provincial traffic authorities.
The spokesperson for the Premier, Sello Tatai, says these ongoing efforts by the provincial government are meant to enforce the law and ensure road safety ahead of the festive season.
During this handover, Maape said that the time for reckless driving is over. He added the government is going to occupy all roads and enforce the law, particularly on motorists who pose a threat to the lives of other motorists.
“We expect these vehicles to be our eyes and ears, particularly in making sure that there is compliance in relation to the transportation of scholars. This includes making sure that buses are roadworthy, so that teaching and learning is not hampered," Maape says.
The Premier also used the opportunity to urge law enforcers to get vaccinated as front-line workers to protect themselves and those around them.
“The Covid-19 pandemic remains a cause for concern in the province. We have so far passed the one million mark of people who are vaccinated. We need to pull together and get more people to our vaccination sites. We need to reach population immunity by December, so that our lives can go back to normal.
“Our economy has suffered serious shocks as a result of the pandemic and by reaching population immunity we will be able to resuscitate the economy and enable government to create jobs and address the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and income inequalities," says Maape.
