NC healthcare facilities in the spotlight | News Article

Northern Cape healthcare facilities were placed in the spotlight on Tuesday, following the announced visits that were conducted by the Health MEC, Maruping Lekwene.

His visit was to check sanitation issues, medical stock levels, the physical state of the facilities, and the availability of medical equipment, among others. Lekwene was accompanied by the acting HOD, Dion Theys, Head of the Ministry, Lorato Moleleki, and acting Chief Director of District Health Services, Riaan Strydom. According to a statement issued by the Northern Cape Health Department, Lekwene was impressed by the noticeable reduction of people who are being hospitalised with Covid-19.

Lekwene reported that the number of hospitalisations declined from 132 the week before, to 93 admissions last week. Lekwene was also pleased by the significant decline in the number of reported Covid-19 related deaths. However, he was cautioned that it is still too early to celebrate, and further urged people to be extra cautious in the coming months. Health facilities he covered on Tuesday in the Frances Baard District included the Warrenton Community Healthcare Centre (CHC), Jankempdorp CHC, Pampierstad CHC, and the Connie Voster Hospital in Hartswater. Lekwene also handed out sanitisers and face masks to patients at hospitals.
