The 21-year-old matriculant, Kabelo Tshehlo, had just returned home after writing his English exam paper, with which the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam was kick-started on Wednesday.

Family spokesperson, Tsakane Mpikwane, tells OFM News that the brothers, aged 18 and 21 years old, have lost everything in the fire which happened at around 10:00. She says luckily no one was injured during the fire because no one was inside the home at the time of the incident. Mpikwane says the two desperate brothers are heartbroken and they are pleading for a helping hand from a Good Samaritan to help with, amongst others, food, clothes, and shoes.

She says an official, who went to the scene for the preliminary investigations, indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Indications are that the electrical fault might have occurred when power was restored after load-shedding in the area.

Mpikwane says she was informed by residents that they couldn’t help to put out the fire because after it started in one section, it quickly spread throughout the home. She says she is trying to organise counselling for the relatives.
