Issue of human trafficking under scrutiny again in FS─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:59 Fri, 29 Oct 2021
The issues of alleged human trafficking in the Free State are once again under scrutiny.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the police in Bloemfontein have launched a manhunt after a University of the Free State (UFS) student was allegedly kidnapped and robbed by two suspects who were allegedly driving a silver Toyota Yaris with a Lesotho registration number.
Makhele tells OFM News that the 19-year-old victim told police that she was walking alone from the mall on Wednesday at about 18:05, when suddenly the silver Toyota Yaris stopped next to her. He says the victim alleges that an African male, who was in the passenger seat, pointed a gun at her and instructed her to get into the vehicle. This is when the driver, the second suspect who allegedly is a white male, drove off. According to Makhele, the two suspects robbed the victim of her cell phone and a bank card, dropped her at the University entrance, and drove off.
He says that a case of kidnapping and armed robbery has been opened at Park Road Police Station. Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the two suspects has been asked to contact Sergeant Mvula Khene at 076-757-8241 or visit the nearest police station.
