Farmworkers shot, FS police launch manhunt─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:36 Sat, 30 Oct 2021
Police have launched a manhunt after three farm workers were shot by unknown men at the Balmacara Farm on the border between South Africa and Lesotho in the district of Vanstadensrus.
The police spokesperson in the Free State, Motantsi Makhele, alleges that on Thursday afternoon five unknown armed men showed up at the Balmacara Farm just three kilometres from the border and opened fire at three farmworkers who were busy preparing food.
He says police were called and on their arrival, they discovered cartridges and blood splatter on the door. According to Makhele, police forced open a door to one of the rooms in the house after hearing faint calls of help. He says the police discovered a 29-year-old victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his hand. An ambulance was immediately called to the scene.
Makhele says the police opened a case of attempted murder after two more workers were also found with gunshot wounds following the police's search on the farm. Anyone with information has been requested to contact their nearest police station.
