Several businesses blacklisted in Central SA─── CATHY DLODLO 05:51 Mon, 01 Nov 2021
Several businesses have been blacklisted by municipalities and a provincial government department in Central South Africa on the Database of Restricted Suppliers that is hosted by National Treasury.
A report by Corruption Watch on government procurement risk trends, shows that two municipalities – Frances Baard District Municipality and the Midvaal Local Municipality – blacklisted six suppliers on the database.
The provincial government department – North West Treasury – also listed three suppliers. The report states that suppliers can be blacklisted for various reasons such as poor or non-performance and misrepresentation of information. This could include companies who failed to submit their tax clearance certificates.
The report points out that the number of suppliers listed is low in comparison to reports of suppliers who have been found to do shoddy work or did not deliver timeously. Several of these offenders are listed in the findings of Auditor-General reports in the same period under review. The reporting of municipalities and government departments were analysed from 2016 to 2020.
