#Elections2021: Low turnout at biggest Mangaung voting station─── 15:10 Mon, 01 Nov 2021

As the country is heading to the polls to vote in the municipal elections, the biggest voting station in Mangaung has seen a very low turnout.
Bloemfontein Courant reports Ward 23 in Universitas, which generally used to be dominated by young students, saw about 100 people in the early hours.
According to Tshepang Mohapi from the DA, the party remains hopeful that a lot more people will turn up as the day progresses. He thought one of the main reasons why there were no people turning up, was because of the hot weather conditions. “We are hoping to see more voters during lunchtime.”
Phiwe Mathe from the ANC said the turnout was slightly worrying because it was different from the previous elections. “But what we do know, is that the municipal elections do not generate as many people as the national elections.” However, Mathe said, the turnout among youngsters had been really good and he was hopeful that more would come towards the last push.
