Hesitation to form coalitions with FS ANC | News Article

Free State opposition parties shrugged off the idea of becoming bedfellows with the ANC, as the final results of the IEC voters poll in the province indicate that four municipalities are up for grabs.

ANC IPC spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, says that he is confident that two of the four municipalities that are up for contention are already in the bag. He said that the party has yet to decide on how they plan to tackle the other two municipalities as they seem to be faced with challenges.

The Freedom Front Plus' Tammy Wessels tells OFM News that they have made an executive decision to refrain from going into coalitions with the ANC as it has shown that it lacks leadership skills and it has been making empty promises to the people for the last 27 years - with no changes.

Wessels further dismissed the idea of going into coalition with the EFF, saying, however, that the national office of the FF Plus will have a final say on which party they will be going into coalition with.

OFM News reported that the ANC in the Free State dominated most municipalities at the polls, except in four municipalities where possible coalitions might be on the table.

Speaking to OFM News, political analyst Dr Sethulego Matebesi says that he foresees possible coalitions between various parties as they may be able to rule certain municipalities within the Free State through coalition.

Kgaobane adds that the ANC will have to not only go back to the drawing board but will have to revisit their approach in reaching the people of the Free State while ensuring that matters such as service delivery are improved drastically.

EFF provincial secretary, Bosanku Msimanga, tells OFM News that they are open to coalitions with any party, on condition that the specific party reaches out to them first. He says they will refrain from reaching out to any political party first.
