Provincial police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, says they were arrested after police received information about the apparent illegal possession of a firearm at a residential complex.

She says that two suspects, aged 30 and 40 respectively, were arrested by members of Kenneth Kaunda District Illegal Mining team after they were discovered in possession of a pistol, one magazine of ammunition, three cell phones and a fire arm holster.

“One of the suspects was spotted throwing out a pistol through the window of a flat. Consequently, the pair were arrested after the above-mentioned items were found in their possession,” she said.

Botma further adds that the two suspects will be appearing before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Monday for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
