North West police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, tells OFM News that the arrest of the duo emanates from an incident that allegedly took place at a Marikana petrol station, where employees were reportedly threatened with firearms and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Botma says that two suspects tried to flee the scene, however, a shoot-out ensued after security officials followed up on the incident.

“Police were informed about the incident and the suspects were arrested in a house at Big House Section. During the arrest, the suspects were found in possession of firearms and ammunition. Investigations into the matter, including tracing of the third suspect, are underway.

Meanwhile, Botma adds that the two suspects will be appearing before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, including robbery and attempted murder.
