#Elections2021: AASD demands Mangaung's results to be nullified─── 14:04 Mon, 15 Nov 2021
The Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats (AASD) is calling on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State to recall the local government election results in the Mangaung Metro, on the grounds that the results were possibly bought.
Papi Mokoena, former Mangaung mayor and leader of the AASD, alleges that there is an individual who gave him a call the night before the local elections, alleging he is a senior member of the Free State IEC.
Mokoena alleges the individual was persistent from 31 October to 2 November, offering to stash boxes with 600 to 800 marked ballots in favour of AASD. Mokoena further alleges the individual indicated he has people that can stash ballot boxes on election day at the voting stations. Even after Mokoena has expressed how uninterested he was, the individual went as far as asking how much money Mokoena was prepared to pay to win the wards he really wants. However, the AASD never paid the bribe.
Mokoena explains that they submitted a Section 68 objection, in accordance with the Electoral Act, about the matter and that the IEC must nullify the Mangaung Metro's results in view of the integrity and validity of the outcome being compromised and tainted. Mokoena alleges the IEC dismissed the party’s Section 68 objection, indicating the matter will be investigated. Mokoena stated the party has opened a case at the Bayswater Police Station.
The Free State IEC is yet to comment on the allegations.
