ANC comments on allegations made by AASD─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 12:45 Tue, 16 Nov 2021
The ANC has expressed its strong disapproval of any allegations that insinuate the party has worked with IEC employees to rig elections.
This follows after the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats (AASD) alleged that there is a senior employer at the Free State Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) who alleges he has been assisting the ANC in the Free State to win votes since 2009. The Free State ANC's Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, says they need no one to assist the party to win elections except the structures of the ANC.
Khoabane says they work tirelessly to canvass for elections and invest much in their campaigns to convince the electorate. He explains that the ANC relates to the IEC through established structures of liaising with political parties, like Party Liaising Committees. No other relationship exists with individual employees of the IEC, except on the work it has to do.
OFM News previously reported that Papi Mokoena, former Mangaung mayor and leader of the AASD, demands the Free State IEC to recall the local government election results in the Mangaung Metro, on the grounds that the results were possibly bought. Mokoena alleged that there is an individual who gave him a call the night before the local elections, alleging he is a senior member of the Free State IEC and he can help his party to win as many wards as Mokoena wants, however, at a fee.
