Coalition talks concluded in Maluti-A-Phofung─── 16:25 Thu, 18 Nov 2021
Political parties in Maluti-A-Phofung ended their coalition talks this morning.
All parties, except the African National Congress (ANC) had vocalized the same sentiment at the end of the meeting.
The community organisation Maluti-A-Phofung 16 (MAP16) decided to form a coalition government with other parties and force the ANC to be the opposition party in the council.
Gilbert Mokotso, MAP16’s leader, was elected as the new Executive Mayor of the council while the party's convenor, Paratlane Motloung, was elected as Speaker.
The leader of the Dikwankwetla Party of South Africa (DPSA), Moeketsi Lebesa, was elected as a new council Chief Whip.
Motloung pointed out that all parties involved in the coalition government have pledged to work together for the service of residents.
