No development in water crisis - Bloem Water

No development in water crisis - Bloem Water | News Article

The Mangaung Metro Municipality – which includes Bloemfontein and its surroundings - is still facing water restrictions by the Bloem Water Board due to its outstanding water debt.

This, despite the fact that Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, indicated in a media statement this past weekend that the municipality made a payment to the waterboard.

OFM News established that the restrictions announced by Bloem Water last week have, however, not changed. The entity says it will continue to reduce water supply in Mangaung by 70% to 30% until a payment towards their current account - which currently stands at about R270 million – is made.

According to Bloem Water’s Maruping Rapudungoane, the Metro has not made any payment towards their current account since June 2021 and it will be due on the 30th of November. This is a payment that should be made on top of the metro’s monthly instalment of R20 million in terms of a payment agreement to settle its arrears.

The current situation of the reduced water supply still continues in line with the decision of the management and the board. This will be towards Wepener, Dewetsdorp, Bloemfontein, Botshabelo, and Thaba Nchu.
