Mangaung's claimed payment 'was for previous water debt'─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 13:55 Mon, 22 Nov 2021
A R20 million payment by the Mangaung Metro Municipality, with the hope to restore the bulk water flow, has not had the desired effect.
Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, said in a media statement the metro has made a payment and submitted a revised plan on how to service their current account. However, the payment is not enough for the full restoration of water to the affected areas as a large amount of the Metro’s current account – about R270 million – is still outstanding. This is according to Bloem Water’s Maruping Rapudungoane.
OFM News previously reported that Mangaung is still facing water restrictions from Bloem Water due to its outstanding water debt, even after the metro made a R20 million monthly payment on previous debt. The water entity will still reduce water supply in Mangaung to 30% until a payment towards their current account.
Rapudungoane says the metro is failing to pay their current account and that has affected the entity negatively, as they have a few non-negotiable commitments that they have to pay on a monthly basis, namely Bloem Water’s electricity bill, their employees’ salaries, and chemical suppliers.
