The case and reappearance of a former police officer is set to resume on Monday in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court.

The 41-year-old Frederick Wilhelm's appearance follows his arrest for allegedly damaging essential infrastructure.

Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says Wilhelm was remanded in custody for a formal bail application upon his first court appearance last Monday, 22 November. Wilhelm was arrested in Wilkoppies, Klerksdorp, on Saturday 20 November 2021.

The accused was arrested after the police responded to a tip-off about a man who was allegedly seen burning copper cables at his premises. During the arrest, copper cables with an estimated value of R20 000 were seized.

Investigation into the matter continues.

"The arrest will definitely serve as a warning to all SAPS employees that those who commit a crime and tarnish the image of the service, will be shown no mercy," says police official, Sello Kwena.
