Police optimistic about safer festive season operations─── BLAINE JONES 12:55 Fri, 03 Dec 2021
Police in the Free State are optimistic that the kick-off of the Safer Festive Season operations will bring a positive outcome after a difficult year of crime.
It has a been a difficult year, especially while facing the Covid-19 pandemic. This has also affected how criminals operated with an upsurge in terms of crime in the Mangaung district in the Free State. This is according to Deputy District Commissioner of Mangaung Metro, KJ Ramakotjo, who says there was an upsurge in crimes against women and children in the province. He says they also had a difficult year with house robberies and hijackings, especially in the Bloemspruit area. The Safer Festive Seasons operations will be initiated through the month of December until 31 January 2022.
Ramakotjo says police had to revise and redo their strategies, and that’s what informs their Safer Festive Season operations. He says during these operations police need to be informed on what’s happening in order to prevent crime from taking place.
“The abuse of liquor and the misuse of drugs by members of the public is a big concern for us. Some of these victims of hijackings were coming from entertainment places where they had a few. Some people who were robbed also came from entertainment places,” says Ramakotjo.
