The Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro is yet to complete its business of the House and elect its committee structures, among others.

Committee structures yet to be elected include the Members of Mayoral Committees (MMC’s) and also the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). However, the municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says the council is expected to sit on Wednesday to attend to various agendas. So far, the Metro was able to elect Mxolisi Siyonzana as the mayor, Mapaseka Nkoane-Mothibi as his deputy, and Stefani Lockman as the speaker. The ANC has the majority in the municipal council, with 51 councillors, followed by the DA with 21 council seats, and the EFF with 12 seats.

The ruling ANC retained the metro with a margin of 50, 63% and this gave them 51 seats in the council. During the voting at the inauguration, a few opposition parties voted with the ruling party. The new speaker, Lockman, received 54 votes.

Siyonzana received 56 votes, the DA candidate Johan Pretorius received 29 votes, whilst the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats' (AASD) Papi Mokoena only managed 15 votes. Lockman’s 54 votes edged her rival, the DA's David Masoeu, who received 30 votes with two votes spoiled.

In total, 84 votes were cast by various councillors, with 51 of the ANC who voted for Lockman, which means 3 other councillors also voted with the ANC. Mapaseka Mothibi-Nkoane received 55 votes, edging her DA rival, Dirk Kotze, who managed to garner 44 votes from council members.
