Health not aware if cluster cases are related to Omicron | News Article

The North West Department of Health says it does not yet know if the reported Covid-19 cluster cases at a community healthcare centre in Tigane outside Klerksdorp is linked to the new Omicron variant or not.

This is according to the department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane. In total, 10 professional nurses are among 12 people who tested positive at the health centre. This led to the closure of the centre for decontamination purposes as per the guidelines of the Health Department. Meanwhile, MEC Madoda Sambatha is set to visit the CHC and the surrounding community to raise awareness and encourage people to vaccinate.

The facility will now operate for 8 hours until the full staff complement is back after their quarantine.

Several general staff members who were not positive would be returning to work once the decontamination process has been completed.

Lekgethwane says contact tracing to determine the affected staff members, has started. All the affected staff and their contacts - once identified - will be expected to strictly comply with Covid-19 regulations, with regards to isolation.

Lekgethwane adds that the night staff will resume daily duties on Thursday 9 December 2021, since they were not affected.
