National and local law enforcement agencies from across the country, including traffic and police officials, are displaying a large fleet of law enforcement vehicles in Bloemfontein.
Different officials drove from the North West and Northern Cape, among others.
Transport minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to launch this national Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in the Caleb Motshabi township in the Free State. All preparations for the event have been completed and local residents from around the area are also trickling in for the festive season message by Mbalula. The statement adds that the objective of the campaign is to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, but also to prevent negligent and reckless driving which could result in accidents.
The launch comes as the N1 road in particular, which runs through the province, continues to experience road accidents which have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
OFM News reported on Friday that a truck driver lost his life following a collision between two trucks on the N1 road. According to a statement from Mbalula's office, the campaign aims to prioritise and promote safer road usage during the high peak season on South African roads.
