FS Beatrix mine yet to present its case to DMR─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:42 Wed, 15 Dec 2021

Mining operations at Sibanye Stillwater's Beatrix Mine, at Theunissen in the Free State, look set to remain suspended until the mine presents its case to the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
This is according to the Free State regional chairperson of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union's (AMCU), Zenzo Xalaba.
Xalaba says the mine has yet to inform the department of the circumstances which led to the death of four miners weeks ago.
Xalaba adds the non-operation of the mine does affect workers' salaries, because they are still receiving payment as per the norm.
OFM News previously reported that four workers died during two separate accidents at the mine, and this prompted the mine to shut down operations.
Meanwhile, Xalaba further tells OFM News that workers held a memorial service for their fallen colleagues on Tuesday.
OFM News previously reported that according to a well-placed source in the upper echelons of the mining industry, the driver of a front loader had a fatal accident when his loader fell on top of two miners, who died on the scene.

The mine was struck by another incident earlier the same week, when one worker lost his life and four of his colleagues’ sustained injuries.
Two of the four were left critical after a rockfall at the mine.
