Centlec hit by high number of #Covid-19 infections─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:07 Wed, 15 Dec 2021
A surge in Covid-19 cases at the Bloemfontein based Mangaung Metro Municipality's power utility, Centlec, has led to the utility failing to respond to power failures and complaints.
Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, in a statement says there is a high number of personal who tested positive for the virus.
He adds this has since caused a shortage of personnel, with many going into isolation.
Mamatu says so far 452 complaints have been received.
Among the areas that are affected include Bainsvlei, Bloemside, Bochabela, Phahameng, Phelindaba, Rocklands, Fichardspark, Batho and Bloemspruit.
"We have personnel on-site, already dealing with complaints in the following areas: Batho 12, Bayswater 7, Freedom square 4 and Ipopeng 8. Currently, four teams of personnel have been deployed to all identified areas, they will be completed by four additional teams during the day," he adds.
Mamtu further adds that the power-utility is making arrangements to obtain assistance from private contractors.
