Bail granted for #Wepener9─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 07:11 Sat, 18 Dec 2021
Out of 11 suspects charged with kidnapping, murder, defeating the ends of justice, and assault with the intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), 9 were granted bail by the Wepener Magistrate’s Court.
The two suspects whose bail was denied are two foreign nationals. The charges were brought against the suspects after the body of an individual, that has been reported missing for two months, was dug up outside Wepener.
The suspects have pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The case has been postponed to 31 January 2022.
OFM News previously reported all suspects, except accused number 1, have written and had their founding affidavits read in court during the bail application.
They argue that their release will not disturb the public order, disturb the peace nor undermine public security.
Eight suspects have confirmed in court through their affidavits - read by legal counsel, Johnny Fixane - that they are employed as taxi drivers.
The stance not to plead guilty is irrespective of the police’s statement, saying four of the suspects voluntarily led them to where the body was buried.
