The provincial Emergency Medical Service (EMS) spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says a minibus taxi collided with the trailer of the truck this morning.

He says one person was left with critical injuries, two with moderate injuries and three with light injuries. All the injured patients have been transported to the Itemoheng District Hospital in Senekal.

The accident has since led to the closure of the road and motorists have been urged to use alternative routes. The South African Police Service (SAPS) emergency medical personnel are currently on the scene.

OFM News previously reported about numerous fatal crashes across major routes in the province in which lives of motorists have been lost.

Earlier the Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, was in Bloemfontein to launch the Festive Season Road Safety awareness campaign.
