The Premier of the Free State has vowed and committed that all the incomplete road construction projects in the province will be completed.

The premier, Sisi Ntombela, says in a statement they have made this commitment to the people of the province.

She was speaking at an event in Mafahlaneng in Tweeling.

Ntombela, who was accompanied by the provincial Police, Roads and Transport MEC, William Bulwane, also said the road infrastructure has a very important role in job creation, economic development and the overall safety of people.

“We made a commitment to the people of the province in general and those of Tweeling in particular that before the end of the year, work will start in these unfinished and bad roads.

"Today (Friday) we are pleased to announce to our people that we have already appointed the contractors and they are starting with their work today," she says in a statement.

The visit by Ntombela and Bulwane comes after numerous other ongoing discussions between the government, the community and all other stakeholders.

"The growing concerns raised by the community of Tweeling, Frankfort, Reitz and other surrounding towns, have played a critical role in ensuring prompt and decisive action in addressing the long-standing incomplete roads, not only in these areas but throughout the province," she further adds.

Ntombela alludes that the road between Reitz and Tweeling will employ about 636 people for 24 months, and the one from Tweeling to Frankfort will create about 724 jobs throughout 24 months.
