More than R30 million is needed to repair and rebuild houses destroyed by the recent heavy rainfall in the North West.
This is according to the North West MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Lenah Miga.
She was speaking at the Lebotlwane Village in the Moretele Local Municipality during a handover of a newly built house to a family that fell victim to the recent heavy rain.
A local businessman volunteered to build a house for the Kgwadi family after they were affected by the rain and lost almost all their belongings.
According to MEC Miga, the department has done its assessment and is in the process of applying for a Human Settlement Disaster Fund from the national department.
"The department will soon issue a full report of the state of disaster and its plan of action," said Miga.
