NW school experiences continued vandalism─── 11:36 Thu, 06 Jan 2022
Tirelong Secondary School in Rustenburg in the North West is experiencing continued vandalism, and as a result, the school is not ready to welcome learners when school starts in the province next week.
The provincial Department of Education says the uncontrollable vandalism is continuing at the school despite the department intervening on numerous occasions.
Departmental spokesperson, Elias Malindi, says the department together with the local mine have renovated the school more than five times already.
According to the department, criminals have stolen electricity cables, doors, window frames, printers, and computers, amongst others.
OFM News has learned that MEC Wendy Matsemela has instructed the district management to conduct a consultative process with stakeholders to find an alternative place for the learners.
Matsemela has further indicated that the department is seeking to involve the Human Rights Commission to work with them in protection of the learners' right to education.
"No arrests have been made regarding this vandalism at this stage, however, police are investigating," said Malindi.
