Road barricaded in Zeerust as protest is underway | News Article

Residents in the Dinokana Village outside Zeerust in the North West have taken their grievances about water shortages to the streets.

It is said that more than 100 residents have been protesting since 05:00 this morning.

A resident told OFM News that the water problem in the area can be addressed properly by the building of reservoirs.

The N4 road is also affected by the protest. Road users travelling via the N4 to Zeerust are advised to use an alternative route.

North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, confirmed to OFM News that the road is barricaded with stones, tree branches, and other objects. She said the protesters are not violent and no arrests have been reported. The local police are monitoring the situation.

Ward councillor, Piet Odisang, says that the area has water tanks that were provided to assist with the water problem. He says he will engage with the residents to bring the situation back to normal.
